Pitch report: Ravi Shastri reckons the pitch will get lower and slower as the game progresses. There has been a lot of rain in the lead-up to the game – no clouds in sight now, mind you – and the pitch has slowed up a bit as a result. Daljit Singh, the curator, says it will not have the “usual Mohali pace and bounce, but it will improve as the game progresses”.

Dhoni admits he would have liked to bat too. “Players have done this (switching from T20 to ODIs to Tests) often recently.. We have had a couple of days of practice, we have made the best of it. Hope to keep the controversies away and play some good, hard cricket. Harbhajan is playing.”
