DAHI HANDI 2010 CELEBRATION

DAHI HANDI CELEBRATIONS

Janmashtmi is around the corner. This year, Janmashtami is being celebrated on two different days. Many are celebrating it today, that is, on the 1 of September, 2010. The other half of the world is celebrating the belovedfestival tomorrow, on the 2nd of September, 2010.

The preparations for the festival is going on at a vast level, with the markets crowded with the followers of Lord Krishna, trying to make a steal at the best possible ornaments and clothes for the idols of Lord Krishna and Radha.

anamashtami is celebrated to cherish the birth of Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna put an end to his evil Uncle, Kansa’s life. Kansa was Krishna’s maternal uncle.

People set up Janmashtami exhibitions in their house in North India to please lord Krishna while Maharashtra is all set for dahi-handi festival. Dahi-handi is a ritual of forming a pyramid with people, (only boys are allowed), and the person on the top climbs up and breaks the ‘handi’ with a stone and the ‘dahi’ flows all over. This is done in keeping Lord Krishna in mind, as such products were Krishna’s favorite.
